NZ history inquiry~Siena

In integrated studies this week we have been researching a New Zealand history topic of our choice. I have been looking into the Cave creek disaster and the Mount Erebus disaster. For my question I decided to to look at the human error and the effect that it had on these disasters.
These are some of the things I have found out~

Cave Creek

On the 28th of April 1995 17 university students and a DOC officer were on a viewing platform overlooking cave creek collapsed. Killing 14 people and injuring 4 . They plunged 40 metres into a chasm.

After the disaster at cave creek DOC who were responsible for the viewing platform received a lot of criticism and so did the government. People said that government should be devoting more resources towards doc to ensure New Zealanders safety.

The Human error here is definitely the lack of a proper safety check and Docs inadequate job with the platform coast 14 people their lives.

Mt Erebus

On the 28th of November an air New Zealand plane left Mangere airport in Auckland, for a sight seeing trip to Antarctica. While on that trip the plane crashed into the lower slopes of Mt Erebus killing all 237 of the passages and crew on board. There were no survivors and it was the forth worst accident in aviation history.

he Human error here has not been confirmed due to one thing but 5 different errors due to different people but air New Zealand said it was only due to Pilot error. After watching a few different documentary I found that the chief of the navigation team had made an error in the navigation writing one wrong coordinate which turned out to be fatal.

Tin poem

My teddy bear poem
My Dinosaur Poem
The last few Periods we have been working on these poems to send to another school in Birkenhead Auckland. We are apart of the trade along with 96,000 other people that will also be writing and sending poems. We started by writing a class poem then looking at sticky words (good words that stick in your head). Next we got given an object that we had to describe in 40 word which was our word bank i got the pink teddy bear. Then we had to pick our best 20 words and write them out on paper. We then spent some time moving around the words until we found a  sequence that sounded good. Then we cut 2 more words so we were left with the best 18. We wrote our drafts. For our title we had to make an anagram out of the objects name. I made Bayer Tedd out of teddy bear so that was the name of my poem.
I think this exercise was very helpful and fun because I learned lots of new words during the researching of the words and I found out what an anagram was. It was fun to stretch my brain and think of all kinds of creative word to put in mu poems. I'll be exited to see what the other schools produced.
